Three ways to see Kauai
Most visitors choose between three kinds of tours. A boat trip shows the Na Pali cliffs from the water and usually includes snorkeling. A helicopter flight covers the interior and the coast in about an hour. A kayak or river boat trip stays on the Wailua River on the east side.
These are different products, not the same trip at three price levels. The examples below come from single operators. They show what one product costs in 2026, not a market range, and they do not show free seats on your date.
Current conditions (October 2026): Storm damage still affects some places. A DLNR notice of 19 October 2026 lists Waimea Canyon and Kōkeʻe as closed, and the hike to Secret Falls on the Wailua River is closed. Beach landings on the Na Pali Coast depend on park access, so ask the operator whether a landing is on before you book. Check the latest DLNR notices before you go.

How the three tour types differ
Pick by what you want to see and how much time you have.
Boat tours
The day trips start on the west side, either in ʻEleʻele near Port Allen or at Kīkīaola harbor in Kekaha. The catamaran is the calmer choice. Rafts are faster and bumpier, and they have no onboard toilet or shade. Snorkeling depends on sea conditions. Read more in the Na Pali boat tour guide.
Helicopter flights
Flights leave from Ahukini Road in Līhuʻe, not from the airline terminal. The doors-off flight takes up to 4 guests and a minimum age of 10. Guests over 250 lb (113 kg), or a couple together over 400 lb (181 kg), need an extra paid seat on this product. See the helicopter tour guide.
Kayak and river boats
The Wailua River is sheltered, so it works when the ocean is rough. Individual kayakers cannot reach Fern Grotto at the moment, but the Smith's river boat may use the dock. Details are on the Wailua page.
What to check before you book
The wording differs more than the prices do.
What the price covers
For the boat examples, tax, reservation fee, harbor surcharge and tip are not confirmed as included. The doors-off price includes a $50 fuel surcharge, but the online booking fee is extra. Compare the final price on the checkout page.
Weather and sea
Operators say that cave entry, snorkeling and landings depend on conditions. The sea is rougher from October to April. Do not book on the promise of a cave, dolphins or whales. Check the weather and best time page for the seasons.
Age and health limits
Age limits are set by each operator and cannot be carried over. One operator takes catamaran guests from 3 years and raft guests from 6 years. Rafts are not for pregnant guests or for guests with certain existing injuries.
Parking and meeting point
The Kīkīaola harbor lot charges $20 per car according to Na Pali Experience. The lot is privately run gravel. A helicopter check-in address is an operator address, so confirm it in your booking.
Cancellation
Terms differ by operator. Read them before you pay, and check whether weather cancellations are refunded in full.

Kauai tours: frequently asked questions
What is the best tour on Kauai?
That depends on what you want to see. A boat trip shows the Na Pali cliffs from the sea, a helicopter flight shows the interior and the coast, and a river trip suits a calm day. The table above compares single examples, not a ranking.
How much do Kauai tours cost?
The examples above run from $95 for a Wailua River paddle to $460 for a doors-off helicopter flight. Na Pali boat trips in the examples cost $215 to $255. These are single products for adults in 2026, so extras can change the final price.
Do I need to book in advance?
Published offer pages do not show free seats on your date, so check availability before you plan around a tour. Book early for the dates you cannot move.
Are there tours on Sunday?
The current Wailua River paddle runs Monday to Friday. Boat and helicopter schedules differ by operator, so check the days on the operator page.
Can I land on the Na Pali Coast?
Commercial boat transfers that drop guests at Kalalau or Miloliʻi are illegal. Licensed rafts may generally approach Nuʻalolo Kai, but a landing depends on park access and the weather. Ask the operator whether it is running on your date.
Is there an evening cruise?
The boat examples above are day trips. If you want an evening departure, check the operator page for the time, length and price.
